What therapies are used in addiction treatment?
Evidence-based therapies include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, group and family therapy, medication-assisted treatment, trauma therapy and EMDR, motivational interviewing, and relapse prevention. The Archangel Centers combines these in outpatient plans across New Jersey and North Carolina.
Which therapy is best for addiction?
There is no single best therapy. The most effective plan is individualized, usually combining cognitive behavioral therapy, peer support, and medication management when appropriate. The Archangel Centers tailors the mix of therapies to your history and needs.
Do you treat mental health alongside addiction?
Yes. The Archangel Centers treats co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, and trauma in the same plan as substance use, using therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. Treating both together makes recovery more likely to last.
Is therapy done in groups or one-on-one?
Both. Treatment combines individual sessions with group therapy, and family therapy when helpful. This mix lets you work on personal goals while learning from and supporting peers in a structured outpatient setting.
How long does each therapy take to work?
Many people feel early relief within a few weeks, while deeper change builds over months. Therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma work are progressive, so the length of your plan depends on your goals. The Archangel Centers reviews progress regularly and adjusts the plan at our New Jersey and North Carolina centers.
